LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - A judge has set an Oct. 9 trial date for a former University of Wyoming student accused of posting an anonymous Facebook threat against herself. Meghan Lanker-Simons is charged with a misdemeanor count of interfering with a peace officer. She has pleaded not guilty. The charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
During a hearing this week, Circuit Court Judge Randal Arp denied a motion by Lanker-Simons' attorney to suppress evidence police collected from her personal computer. The charge against Lanker-Simons stems from a UW Police Department investigation into a graphic, sexual comment made on a Facebook page for UW students that targeted Lanker-Simons. Police say their investigation traced the posting to Lanker-Simons' personal computer.
