Members of the Hepp family, representatives of the Buffalo Tree Board and the City of Buffalo were in attendance for a tree planting ceremony Thursday in memory of former Buffalo Mayor and Councilman Bruce Hepp.
The ceremony took place at the Buffalo Children's Center where a number of kids helped plant the tree by scooping shovelsfull of dirt on the evergreen planted there in Hepp's name.
Buffalo mayor Randy Dyess read the proclamation declaring Thursday as Arbor Day in Buffalo and then turned the ceremonies over to members of the Tree Board, who then brought the Hepp family forward to begin planting the tree. Kids from the children's center then helped finish the planting.
Dyess said the Buffalo Tree Board was responsible for the tree planting idea.
Missy Hepp-Landrey said the ceremony was a great honor for the family.
Dyess said there is talk of a plaque to be installed on the site in the future.
