Sheridan police are still searching for a white male who's alleged to have stolen tires Friday morning from an outdoor display at Plains Tire on Coffeen Avenue. Lt. Chris Dahmke said they know who he is and that he's not from this area.
The lieutenant said the suspect led his officers on a high-speed chase through town, clocking speeds of up to 100 mph, after the suspect's vehicle was spotted about six blocks away from the tire store. The driver sped off, onto Interstate 90, then back into town on Fifth Street.
That's where the suspect made the slip, in a residential neighborhood off Fifth and Saberton. Officers had terminated pursuit because it had become too dangerous and they'd already identified who they were chasing.
Authorities have not yet discerned whether this is a felony charge. That depends. It will be, if the value of the stolen tires reaches $1,000.
