The Civic Theater Guild in Sheridan has made a donation to the Welch Cancer Center of 10 percent of the proceeds from last season’s performance of “Wit,” which amounts to $300.
On behalf of the cast, the show's director, Mary Jo Johnson, said she's honored to have raised money for the local cancer center. The show almost “felt sacred,” she said, and they all felt that.
The play centered on the final hours of an English professor suffering from stage IV ovarian cancer. After spending most of her adult life as a haughty scholar, she realizes she'd prefer kindness to the intellectualism of her doctors.
Matt Davis is the president of the theater guild.
He said: “It pleases me that we can present this (gift) to the cancer center in support of what they do each day. As an entity which is fully supported by our community, it is our honor to be giving something back.”
