Superintendent Discusses Security/Safety at JCSD1 Schools

Dr. Rod Kessler, Superintendent of Johnson County School District 1, discussed security and safety issues with the board of trustees at their last meeting.

He said discussions with staff and parents at the schools has been ongoing, with everyone concerned for safety in the schools since the tragic shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.

A number of possibilities have been discussed, from increased numbers of School Resource Officers (SROs) to restricted access to a number of other ideas.

In Buffalo, SROs are looking to get out to spend more time in the other schools, not just the middle and high schools.

Different ideas may be getting a look, but Kessler said the district is already looking at specific areas concerning safety and security.

Conversations will continue with staff and parents and information will be brought back to the board for further discussions.
