Coming up in just under two weeks, the Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition will be taking part in Suicide Prevention Week activities leading up to the Out of the Darkness Walk scheduled for Saturday morning, September 11th.
On the August 23rd edition of Public Pulse, Coalition members Vanessa Hastings and Dawn Sopron were host Kim Love's guests, and we'll be highlighting segments of their discussion.
Wyoming has for a number of years ranked near or at the top of the nationwide statistics for successful completion of suicides, and Hastings addressed two of the reasons why.
Hastings says that with other means, such as pills, for example, there is still a bit of time after the pills have been taken to call 9-1-1. With guns, once the trigger is pulled – the majority of the time – there is no further opportunity to get help.
Something the Coalition has been providing to people are safety locks for guns. Dawn Sopron explains.
Tomorrow, we'll highlight Hastings' and Sopron's discussion of suicide rates in the military community.
