600-plus students representing the majority of the high schools in Wyoming were in Sheridan and Big Horn earlier this week for the annual High School Student Council State Convention. Big Horn High School played host to the gathering, with special workshops, a fireworks display and a dance held at their new campus Monday afternoon and evening. Morning activities Monday and Tuesday were held at the Golden Dome at Sheridan College.

Advisor Jodi Ibach says Big Horn hosting was significant for her students.

Keynote speaker for the Convention was Bob Tryanski, a motivational speaker who specializes in empowering youth. Centered around the convention theme “Leadership – Not a Spectator Sport: Get in the Game,” here is a brief segment of Tryanski's speech Tuesday morning at the Golden Dome.

Tryanski spoke for nearly an hour, sharing several poignant stories about people who were maybe not obvious “leader types” who were given opportunities to do great things for others. The students gave Tryanski a minute-long standing ovation after his speech concluded.

Evanston will be the host for the Student Council Convention next year.
