Crossfit, P90X, Mixed Martial arts; the new, innovative workouts are all the rage these days, and this July there will be another way to grunt, flex and lift things in Wyoming.

As seen on ESPN2, the first ever strongman competition for our state will be held this summer in Sheridan featuring boulder lifting, tire throws and other back-breaking feats of strength. Organizer and competitor, Jake Benth explains how this is the introduction the competition for the entire state.

A Marine for 11 years, after time overseas, Benth left as a sergeant in 2009. Now working at the VA Medical Center and going to school, Benth has put up all of his own money to bring the new competition to the Cowboy State.

He added that the competition is not necessarily for just for the big guys you see on TV, all sizes can train to compete for a chance to go to nationals. It's not just for the guys, there's female competition as well.

The Cowboy State Strongman Competition is expected to bring competitors from the entire region. It will be held July 7 at PURENERGY Fitness in Sheridan on 603 Riverside next to Carpet Design.
