Strategic Planning Session Seeks to Drive Sheridan County Prevention Efforts

The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, along with the Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition, is hosting an upcoming strategic planning session to investigate viable programs and actions to fight the issues of alcohol and drug abuse, tobacco use and suicide in Sheridan County.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, which is set for noon on January 28th at the Holiday Inn’s Sugarland Mining Company restaurant.

Rich Lindsey and Mike Vercauteren, team leaders with the Wyoming Prevention Management Organization, will be on hand to facilitate the meeting. A complementary light lunch will be served.

Attendees will use information from the just-completed, comprehensive Sheridan County Community Needs Assessment to track best practices in each area of alcohol, drugs, tobacco and suicide. Community prevention specialist with the Wyoming PMO, Thom Gabrukiewicz, says activities will be planned in addition to prevention action steps for the next 18 months and beyond.

He says this is the chance for community members to get their say in picking and implementing the programs and plans that the will drive prevention efforts in Sheridan County.

Gabrukiewicz says by building strong coalitions within the community, members will have their voices heard as
it relates to alcohol, tobacco, substance abuse and suicide prevention - all part of a statewide effort to build community wellness through grassroots support of prevention efforts.
