Anglers in our listening area will have a chance to catch some of the brook and brown trout that personnel at the Story Fish Hatchery have been stocking. Staff at the hatchery have placing hundreds of one-to-two pound trout in Panther Pond - near Wright and Blackhills Power - and in Light Pond near Upton, also known as Osage Pond.

Public Information Specialist for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Warren Mischke, said in a media release that fall spawning operations have wrapped up and that these brood fish are extras that are not needed in the future.

Restrictions on stocking at the hatchery came into effect in recent years after staffers discovered the whirling disease parasite in some of the fish within the hatchery. But all the trout that have been and will be released have been given a clean bill of health by the Story Fish Hatchery.

The trout will be stocked periodically from November through January.
