Senate File 11 that would have in effect created a state skilled-nursing Veteran's Home facility in Sheridan failed in committee last week by one vote, 15-14 with one senator absent.
Rep. Rosie Berger said that this was the biggest disappointment for her so far in the session.
Rosie Berger explains the opposition to the idea.
The $2.3 million project would have added 24 beds to the Green House campus. Legislators were also opposed to a project with such high cost per bed.
Wyoming is one of only two states in the country without a state-sponsored skilled-nursing facility for veterans. There is an assisted living facility in Buffalo, but no state nursing home. The bill originated after studies by the state audit committee on veteran needs found veteran housing as the No. 1 need in Wyoming.
