The Wyoming State Historical Society is searching for oral histories that have been created here. Using a grant from the State Historical Records Advisory Board and the historical website, the society wants to create a database of oral histories. The database will be made available to researchers online or at libraries, museums, colleges and other institutions in Wyoming.
Society President Rick Ewig said oral histories can be invaluable to historians, but they often are not aware of the information that has been recorded, or how to access that information. He said the purpose of the society's project is to locate and inventory the histories and make the oral records more available.
Over the next 12 months, he said, the society will survey libraries, museums, local historical societies and colleges to find oral history collections. The contacts for more information on the project, or to learn how to provide information on existing oral histories, is posted below.
