Yesterday marked the beginning of National Volunteer Week, and at the Sheridan Senior Center, the week is observed in grand style. Volunteer Coordinator for the Center, Nancy McKenzie, says they're holding a special party for volunteers on Thursday, April 22nd at 7 am.
Nancy says there are approximately 450 volunteers who help out at the Center every year, the majority of them being drivers for the Meals on Wheels program.
One of the dedicated volunteers is Millie Carroll, who's been helping out for about two years or so. She works in the dining room on Mondays and Thursdays.
Carroll also volunteers by singing with the Sheridanaires, who travel to the various nursing homes in the County.
McKenzie says that they can always use the volunteer services of most anyone, and there are a few areas where they currently need assistance -- everything from calling BINGO a couple days a week for 20 minutes after lunch, to doing data entry for the piles of paperwork they have.
If you have an interest in helping out, call Nancy McKenzie, Volunteer Coordinator, Sheridan Senior Center, (307) 672-2240.
