Court records show that Jesse Paul Speer, the 39-year-old Montana man who made headlines after he was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting an 11-year-old Cody girl, expressed remorse and ultimately confessed to investigators following his arrest.

C.J. Baker of the Powell Tribune reports that in an affidavit from Det. Thomas Pallach of the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Speer told investigators intimate details of the crime that had not yet been made public. Det. Pallach wrote in the affidavit that Speer shared things that only the perpetrator could know.

Speer faces charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping and using a firearm while committing a felony. He is incarcerated in the Park County Detention Center, being held on a $2 million bond.

The next step will be a preliminary hearing, which is expected to take place on November 19.
