Special Meeting With Fire Districts Held in Kaycee Wednesday

A special meeting between the Johnson County Fire District No. 1 from Buffalo, Powder River Fire District from Kaycee, and the Johnson County Commissioners was held Wednesday night at the Kaycee Fire Hall.

On the agenda were discussions ranging from how to help pay for last summer's Gilead Fire to the need for a County Fire Warden to rural addressing and fire mitigation.

County Commissioner John Gibbs said in a later interview that the meeting was productive and useful.

On the issue of the Gilead Fire, the US Forest Service and Bighorn National Forest are looking to the county and/or the fire districts to help pay the more than $3 million in costs from the Gilead Fire, and there were a number of discussions on that matter.
Although nothing is finalized, according to Gibbs, he said the State Fire Marshal is working with the fire districts and he expects a resolution will be presented to the commissioners in the next few weeks concerning the issue.

Also discussed was the possibility of bringing a Fire Warden back to the county, and Gibbs explains why.

Gibbs said if the decision is made to bring the Fire Warden back, there will more than likely be one appointed through the rest of FY 2013 when a permanent Warden would be found.

Other topics discussed were fire mitigation and rural addressing.
