The Northern Wyoming Community College District made the purchase of the Spear-O-Wigwam Ranch in Northern Johnson County official at a special announcement ceremony at Sheridan College Thursday. College President Dr. Paul Young comments on the importance of the acquisition.

Young indicated that there are three primary things that they will focus on in utilizing the property.

Young said that the College already has a number of activities planned for this summer including a writer's camp, a lecture series, and outdoor survival school as well as a number of other offerings in the works. In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the College will be issued an Educational Special Use Permit, granting access to 67,850 acres of land in the Bighorn Mountains for educational purposes.

The one-time purchase cost for Spear-O-Wigwam is $650,000 and the annual estimated operating cost is $125,000 and will be covered in part by tuition and fees collected for educational program offerings as well as through fund-raising.
