SPD: Fake $100 Bills Passed in Sheridan

Sheridan Police are searching for leads after reports of fraudulent $100 bills being passed in Sheridan this week. The four fake bills SPD has collected are not $100s, but are actually washed $5 bills.

Lt. Chris Dahmke said that the report came in Tuesday morning and they are following up on possible leads.

SPD recommends merchants check all $100 bills received. Legitimate $100 bills, when held up to the light, should have a faintly embedded Ben Franklin picture in the white space to the right of the center photo.

Fraudulent bills have Lincoln's head in the white space. A legitimate bill also reads “USA 100” in the vertical security strip immediately to the left of Franklin.

Call 911 if you get a fake 100. Also, SPD asks for a description of the person passing the bill, including a description of the car they are driving and license plate number.
