Motorcycle deaths in Wyoming are higher than national averages, and the State of Wyoming has issued a grant to law enforcement agencies around the state in order to increase patrols this August.
Sgt. Tom Henry with the Sheridan Police Department talked about what they will be doing this August during a busy month for motorcyclists.
The grant was for $5,000 and will pay officers for 100 hours of overtime in August, according to Henry. Last year alone, 31 motorcyclists died on Wyoming highways, up from 13 in 2009. Henry says preventing this type of accident can be as simple as looking both ways.
Motorcyclists are reminded to wear helmets at all times, Henry said. This year's annual Sturgis Rally is August 5-11 in Sturgis, South Dakota.
