With Sheridan being one of the top tourist destinations in Wyoming, it's understandable residents here get pretty comfortable when it comes to their home security. While Sheridan isn't overrun with crime, Detective Jim Arzy with the Sheridan Police Department reminds citizens there are a few quick, easy things people should do to safeguard their home against burglary.
For example, he said motion detection lights outside a home are a major security boost.
Keeping doors and windows locked and having a dowel rod in sliding glass doors can prevent most crimes of opportunity. If you have the cash to install a home security system, that's even better, but Arzy also suggested a more casual line of home defense.
Lastly, Arzy points out that having, or being, a nosy neighbor isn't always such a bad thing.
More info on how older citizens can keep their homes safe is available via the Sheridan Senior Center.
