Last week the Wyoming Department of Health paid a visit to Sheridan Memorial Hospital to complete a survey and to monitor the Laryngeal Mask Airway sterilization process to ensure the hospital was following the manufacturers recommended sterilization procedure of steam autoclaving the devices. The Department of Health found the hospital to be in compliance; however upon further examination, they found something else that was brought to the hospital's attention. SMH CEO Mike McCafferty.

By eliminating the reusable LMA's, you remove any possibility of the device not being 100% properly sterilized says McCafferty.

Between June 1st and November 8th of 2011, there were 937 surgical procedures at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, of those 354 LMA's were used during surgery. The hospital will be sending out letters this week to every patient that had a surgical procedure during that time, regardless if an LMA was used or not. For patients that an LMA was used during surgery, the hospital will offer free screenings for hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV.
