Child Advocacy of the Bighorns is looking for those interested in becoming a CASA, Court-Appointed Special Advocate, for children in Sheridan and Johnson Counties.

Patsy Jenkins, with the Child Advocacy office in Buffalo, explains what a CASA is and what they do.

Jenkins said they also have a supervised visit/exchange program through their offices for parents with restraining orders or visitation with parents when the children have been placed in foster care.

Training for CASAs began this week, but Jenkins said there is still time to volunteer for those interested. The Department of Family Services, the county attorney, and other CASAs all help in the training process.

Jenkins explains what it takes to become a CASA.

There is no prototype for being a CASA, she said, just those with a desire to help children.

To sign up to be a CASA or for more information, contact the Buffalo office of Children's Advocacy of the Bighorns at 684-2446, or the Sheridan office at 675-2273.
