Even though it's been unseasonably warm this winter in Wyoming, learning that you've won a free trip to Costa Rica in late January would probably brighten anyone's day.

A Sheridan High School junior received a nice surprise during her lunch hour Tuesday.

That was Sara Mockensturm, after SHS Spanish teacher Mario Montano notified her that she had won the school-wide drawing for a trip to Costa Rica with the Spanish Club. But, even with all that excitement she was already planning to attend the "We the People" trip to Washington D.C., so she passed on the award to the next name chosen – Emily Josephine Julian.

Spanish Club President Karsyn Lamb tells us how it works.

Julian will join the about 16 other students from Spanish Club. Montano said that the project has been a success - aside from that little extra motivation to shoot for an A - last year the student that joined them had not taken Spanish prior to the trip but now is enrolled in Spanish courses at the high school.
