SHS Guidence Counselor Larry Steiger faces multiple felony fraud charges.

Sheridan High School Counselor Larry Steiger and a former aid of his while he was Principal of Campbell County High School will stand trial on felony fraud charges. Both were bound over for trial last week after waiving their right to have a Circuit Court Judge determine whether prosecutors have enough evidence against them to go to trial. Steiger and his former aid Trudy Kay Garcia are accused of using a school district credit card to buy more than $1,600 in electronics and workout equipment for themselves.

Both are charged with three counts of knowingly submitting a false claim or voucher. Charging documents state that Garcia said that she knew it was wrong, but that she felt she had no choice because her boss had told her to do it. Steiger told detectives that he was responsible for having Garcia order the weight bench, but that he didn't tell her to buy any of the other items that were charged with the district credit card.

Prosecutors say Steiger and Garcia charged $1,634 to a school district credit card to buy a weight bench, two iPods and two Amazon Kindles. Detectives later found the bench, iPods and one of the Kindles in Steiger's home. Both Steiger and Garcia are free on bond. Their next court appearance has yet to be scheduled.
