Shooting Range Still Possible If Jo Co Not Liable

Shooting Range Still Possible If Jo Co Not Liable

At their meeting Tuesday, the Johnson County Commissioners further discussed the proposed indoor shooting range that a group is trying to build on county-owned land near the airport.

Commission Chair Delbert Eitel read an opinion from the county's insurance provider saying he had no concerns that the county would be held liable if a few specific things were done.

Commissioner Jim Hicks asked Deputy County Attorney Barry Crago to draft a letter with all of the specific wording wanted by the commissioners and send the letter to the county's insurance carrier for them to sign, showing the county would not be held liable if the shooting range is allowed to go forward.

Although no decision on allowing the shooting range has been made at this point, the commissioners appear at least willing to look into the matter as long as no liability is focused on the county itself.
