The Black Tooth Brewery in Sheridan was packed full Tuesday evening for the first-ever “Gunapalooza” put on by the Friends of the NRA. Attendees purchased tickets for a raffle as a banner of the different prizes – firearms from .22 rifles to the latest shotguns – enticed those at the brewery to take part.

Sam Fletcher, president of the Sheridan chapter of the Friends of the NRA.

The Friends of the NRA is a grassroots organization that supports the non-profit, tax-exempt NRA Foundation and its efforts related to defending the Second Amendment and fostering the responsible use of firearms. But Fletcher says this isn't about left or right politics – or making a political statement – it's all about fostering a love of the outdoors, self-sufficiency and safe shooting practices.

Based on the NRA Foundation's 2011 tax records they have quite a bit of national support, as contributions to the foundation totaled nearly $20.5 million. Fletcher says his chapter of the Friends of the NRA will be having a banquet on September 28 at the Sheridan Holiday Inn beginning at 4 p.m. He says the group would welcome anyone interested in supporting their efforts to volunteer.
