First it was the Mint Bar. Then late last month, the Rainbow Bar followed, putting up no smoking signs during a memorial service for longtime bar owner Don Townsend. Townsend suffered from COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, likely as a result of also being a longtime smoker - though he put down the pack for the last six years of his life.
Community prevention specialist with the Sheridan County Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, Thom Gabrukiewicz, says this group of business owners deciding to ban smoking in their establishments fits the regional trend.
Gabrukiewicz says it's good to see business owners making their own healthy decisions - and that this particular decision could be good for business. Especially good during rodeo week in Sheridan, when more college students choose to come home over the standard holidays.
There are no statewide laws concerning indoor smoking in Wyoming, as it's up to local governments to establish regulations - if they choose to do so.
