Sheridan residents who commute to work via 5th Street have probably seen Gary Green on his morning run.

At the age of 76, Green straps on his sneakers three days a week and runs up the length of the hill, makes a right, and runs to the end of Highland Avenue. He then comes back the way he came. He says his route is somewhere between 2 and 3 miles.

Competitive or not, Green's workout regime is most certainly age-defying, but to him, it's no big deal. It's just exercise.

Green makes a point of waving to each and every vehicle that passes by. He says it's his way of making sure traffic sees him. While a lot of people know him only by the short exchange of waving hands in the morning, Green is a lot more than an athlete in his mid-70's.

Green is a Sheridan native who's happy to retire in his home town.
