Sheridan Man Serving Jail Time In Drug Case

Local, State, and Federal authorities had been working to stop a methamphetamine delivery ring in Sheridan since 2003. Yesterday, 50-year-old Jerry Melneck was sentenced for his part in the distribution of the drug between 2003 and 2007. 4th Judicial District Court Judge John Fenn ordered Melneck to spend the next 3 to 5 years in prison but that sentence was suspended and Melneck will now spend the next 3 months in the Sheridan County Detention Center. Fenn also placed Melneck on 4 years probation.

Judge Fenn expressed concerns about Melneck’s alcohol abuse but then complimented Melneck on taking steps to remove himself from the drug lifestyle even before the legal system became involved.

46-year-old Monte Johnson was also involved in the meth ring. Back in July Johnson was sentenced to the same 3 to 5 years in prison. Johnson’s prison sentence was suspended in lieu of 4-years probation, as well.

Both of the sentences were the result of plea agreements with prosecutors.
