WANATAH, Indiana — A 34-year-old Wyoming truck driver was killed Thursday afternoon, January 20th in an accident.
La Porte County Coroner John Sullivan said a semi steel hauler driven by Andrew Costa of Sheridan, Wyo., was westbound at 3 p.m. on U.S. 30 at CR-700W when it struck the back of a slow-moving semi in front of it. The driver of that vehicle sustained only minor injuries, Sullivan said.
But one of two 20,000 pound steel coils on Costa’s truck broke loose and crushed his cab. He was pinned inside and, according to Sullivan, Cass-Clinton and Hanna volunteer fire departments, as well as men from John’s Garage, Wanatah, all worked to free him.
Sullivan, who pronounced Costa dead at the scene, said the cause of death was massive blunt force injury.
