68-year-old Sheridan resident, and Ward 3 City Council Candidate Melvin Krenzelok, had his Initial Appearance in Sheridan County Circuit Court Tuesday. Krenzelok is charged with one Felony count of Third Degree Sexual Assault; one count of Misdemeanor Sexual Battery; and two counts of Misdemeanor Battery.
The incident that prompted the Felony Third Degree Sexual Assault charge allegedly occurred on January 14, 2010, when an employee at Sheridan Manor observed Krenzelok kissing and inappropriately touching an elderly patient that suffers from dementia.
During an interview in late January with law enforcement, Krenzelok stated that “kissing her might have been fine, but reaching up under her sweater wasn't”, and that it was a “big boo-boo on his part.” Upon further investigation into the case, authorities learned of several other incidents at Heritage Towers that dated all the way back to December of 2007.
The three misdemeanor charges against Krenzelok stem from a number of incidents with various elderly women at Heritage Towers, where Krenzelok was employed as a custodian before being terminated in March of 2008 due to complaints of inappropriate conduct.
Circuit Court Judge John Sampson set a $5,000 unsecured bond and stated that Krenzelok not have any contact with any of the victims and that he not enter the property of Sheridan Manor, Heritage Towers, and the Sheridan Senior Center. Sampson said that the case will be set for a preliminary hearing; however, no date was set at the Initial Appearance.
Third Degree Sexual Assault is a felony that is punishable by imprisonment of not more than 15 years and a fine of $10,000, or any combination of both. The three misdemeanor charges are punishable by imprisonment of not more than a year, and a fine of $1,000, or any combination of both.
