The Sheridan High School gymnasiums were transformed into an elegant venue that would have made the Phantom of the Opera proud. Saturday night, “Masquerade” was the theme for the 2011 SHS Jr. / Sr. Prom.
Over 200 couples lined up outside the gym to prepare for the Grand March, which has become quite a public event prior to the young people heading in to dance. Junior Kaitlynne Heyer, resplendent in a black satin gown, told us about how the rooms had been transformed.
The Grand March took place in the larger of the two gyms, and after all of the prom-goers took their, well, promenade, the announcement of the Prom Royalty was made. Jr. Princess honors went to Katelynn Julian, who rocked the event wearing a hand-made and designed cocktail dress made completely out of candy bar wrappers. Jr. Prince honors went to Gabe Dahmke.
Sr. King was Cole Gustufson, and Queen Kayla Woodward proudly accepted her crown. She was quite stunned, actually.
The royalty was voted on by the attendees earlier last week. Kayla's mother, Pam Woodward, was equally surprised.
Janine Goodrich, class advisor, had spent a long week with a dedicated group of junior class students and some parents who put all the decorations together. She tells us.
Emma Hall, Chair of the 2011 Prom Committee, said that she was “so happy!” at how everything came together.
