More than 200 Sheridan High School students will receive their diplomas in graduation ceremonies next month. Principal Dirlene Wheeler said 211 are scheduled to graduate, but that number is subject to change during the next few weeks. She said she is excited about the numbers, but added they still aren't where she would like them to be.
Graduation ceremonies will be at 1 in the afternoon on May 25 – the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The principal said the date and time are a tradition dating back before she started work at the high school. The event will be in Homer Scott Stadium if the weather allows. If the weather is bad, ceremonies will be moved into the high school's main gymnasium. The principal said a major difference is that, in the stadium, seating is unlimited, so the ceremonies will be open to anyone who wants to attend.
High school government teacher Tyson Emborg will be featured speaker. Valedictorian is Gretchen Dougherty, and there will be two Salutatorians this year. Tyler Julian and Alison Geary tied for the honor.
