A young, 170-pound male black bear was spotted in town this morning in the equipment yard behind Prime Rate Motors.

Tim Thomas of Game and Fish said the call came in around 8:45 this morning.

Game and Fish officials worked with local law enforcement to shoot the bear with a tranquilizer dart while it was treed. The bear will be released into the Big Horn Mountains this afternoon after it sleeps off its sedative. This is the second bear of the year that has wondered into Sheridan city limits. Thomas said both bears probably didn't know any better.

The bear was not showing signs of aggression, but was tagged for future identification. The bear was removed from the streets less than an hour after it was reported.
