Earlier this week the City of Sheridan revealed some preliminary flood maps prepared by the Army Corps of Engineers. Sheridan County is reviewing those maps along with the City. County Public Works Director Rod Liesinger says this project is sorely needed in the county.
Those elevations have been missing from previous flood maps of Sheridan County. The study area being updated only includes the Little Goose, Big Goose, and Soldier Creek drainages.
While the County is waiting for FEMA approval on the current study maps, developers in most areas of the county are still going to be required to conduct their own flood study as part of the permitting process for new developments.
The City and County will have jointly spent nearly $350,000 on this flood study by the time the final updated maps are adopted.
