Talk of a strengthening economy is falling on deaf ears of many in Wyoming. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Wyoming jumped from 6.8% in September to 7.4% in October. Here in Sheridan County the rate made a larger move from 6.6% to 7.3% in October. Sheridan Workforce Center Supervisor Chanda Richards says there are jobs available.
There are very few offerings in the construction industry and that includes both commercial and home construction. The most jobs seem to be available in the healthcare field. Richards has a suggestion for those looking for work.
Another tip is to participate in volunteer work. Some volunteer jobs transition into paid positions over time. The local workforce center provides other services including interview counseling and help creating a resume.
Sheridan County and the State of Wyoming are still well behind the national unemployment rate, which is over 10%. Last year at this time the unemployment rate for Sheridan County was only 2.6%.
