The process of crafting a budget for Sheridan County began back in February. The County Commissioners held a public hearing Monday night, where there was no public comment taken and ultimately approved a $15.9 general fund budget Tuesday morning at their regular meeting. While the overall budget is down just over 2 percent from last year, Commissioner Steve Maier says that they were able to budget a modest raise for their employees.
Maier said that this year's budget was the toughest he's worked since being a Commissioner.
Since 2009, the general fund operating budget has been reduced by almost 30 percent. The County used general fund carryover cash of $1.58 million and $545,000 of reserves to balance the budget for the fiscal year.
