The Sheridan County Commissioners approved a $22.7 million dollar budget Tuesday. The general fund budget; $16.3 million, is down 9% from last year's budget. Sheridan County Administrative Director Renee' Obermueller talks about how the County keeps their budget balanced.
This was the first year that County Clerk Eda Schunk-Thompson was involved in the budget process and Renee' says that it was good to have her on board to help crunch the numbers.
In the budget message that was issued to the Commissioners, it states that Sheridan County has the potential to receive approximately $1.6 million in dedicated grant funding for the fiscal year, most of which will be used for county road construction, improvements and dust mitigation.
Fixed costs for the County include $1.12 million for the Library; $425,000 for the Fairgrounds; $175,000 for the Airport and $56,250 for the hospital. The budget also includes a 5% increase in employee's health insurance premiums.
