Sheridan Commissioners Explain DeSmet Disappointment

The Sheridan County Commissioners held a special conference to express their disappointment with the Johnson County Commissioners decision to reject a lease proposal from the Game and Fish for water rights on Lake Desmet. Johnson County declined a $2.9 million lease of Lake DeSmet with the Game and Fish department, stating the 99-year agreement was too long of a commitment for relatively little revenue. Commission Chair, Mike Nickel, said they had hoped the lease had been modified enough to strike a deal.

In fact, the commissioners pointed out the Attorney General helped the Game and Fish re-write the lease specifically to address Johnson County's concerns.

Johnson County's representatives said the concerns were not addressed to their satisfaction, and thus declined to approve the lease agreement.
