Officials with Sheridan College received notification recently that they were awarded a $298,950 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services – Health Resources and Services Administration. The funds from this grant will provide equipment for the college to expand the simulation training currently available to nursing students and health care providers in the region.
The equipment will help create a comprehensive, state-of-the-art regional simulation center to enhance the clinical practicum experiences for nursing students at Sheridan College and support workforce development training for health care professionals as they seek to maintain and upgrade their clinical skills. Hospitals will also use the simulation center to evaluate competencies of nurse candidates seeking employment.
The project period for the grant begins immediately and will continue through August 31, 2011. The plan is to utilize a portion of the equipment as early as this spring, and the remainder will be in place by fall 2011. New simulation equipment will be located in Sheridan College’s Workforce Development Center located at 245 Broadway.
