The Sheridan College Jazz Combo and Sheridan County Children's Chorale will unite in a live performance of music from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” during a screening of the feature film next week. Performances will be at 7 Friday evening, Dec. 13, and at 2 and 7 on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Whitney Presentation Hall. Admission is free, and performances are open to the public.
The performance has been in the works for almost two years and is the brainchild of Dr. Michael Flynn and Dr. Christian Erickson, faculty members in the college's music department. All of the music has been arranged for a small jazz combo, and Dr. Flynn on trumpet and Dr. Erickson on piano will perform alongside students Thomas Saffel on drums and J. T. Fuka on bass. The Sheridan County Children's Chorale will provide the voices of Charlie Brown's friends as they sing in the film.
The performance will include traditional Christmas carols such as “What Child Is This,” “Christmas Time is Here,” “Christmas Is Coming,” “O Tannenbaum,” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” as well as the original song for the movie, “Linus and Lucy.”
