Sheridan College in Johnson County has raised more than $34,500 to use for a scholarship endowment.
Sheridan College President Dr. Paul Young had informed the three colleges in the Northern Wyoming Community College District earlier in the fall that matching funds were available from the state. If each college could raise $25,000 the state would match that for an endowment of $50,000.
Derek Andrews, with SCJC, said he had turned in pledges and checks this week in the amount of $34,520, of which $25,000 will be used for the endowment match. The remaining $9,520 will go into a waiting pool of funds in case the state legislature awards more match opportunities.
Andrews said, “That way if SCJC is awarded another round of say 25K, we will already be well on our way to matching the new pool of money.”
Dr. Young will be petitioning the legislature to award more matching funds early next year.
