In light of recent events involving the abduction and molestation of a young girl in Wyoming, Sheridan College is hosting a community workshop about keeping kids safe from sexual abuse. Guest speaker, Karen Fettig, said although the topic can be uncomfortable, it is one that needs to be addressed in every community.
Fettig said most cases of child molestation are actually committed by an aquaintance of the victim or family, which makes the issue confusing to identify or address.
The workshop is designed for parents, youth group leaders, teachers, social workers, and emergency professionals to know how to identify, address and talk about child abuse. The class will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Sheridan College C-TEL auditorium. It's free and open to the public.
