Sheridan Coalition Aims to Increase Psych Care

The Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition is hoping to bring community care providers together to raise awareness and exchange ideas about how to provide comprehensive mental health care with the county's limited resources.

Vanessa Hastings, chairman on the coalition, said reaching out to counselors and general practice physicians is the first step to form a unified front in comprehensive mental health care.

Hastings, who also works at Northern Wyoming Mental Health, said Sheridan does have an immediate support plan for individuals in crisis, but they may end up waiting longer for needed medications, and this is due to a low number of psychiatric care providers.
