Layoffs were addressed at Tuesday night's Sheridan City Council meeting.

City of Sheridan Human Resources Director Heather Doke presented the City Council Tuesday night with an update on this year's employee layoffs. Doke spoke of the voluntary buyouts that were offered for a second year in a row.

Doke said that since the City's budget started to decline three years ago, there hasn't been a department within the City that hasn't felt the effect of the budget crunch.

Doke commended the staff for continuing to do more with less and that regardless of what happens in the near future regarding the Council's decision on ambulance service within the City, there will be more layoffs in the coming weeks. If the City decides to contract ambulance service with Rocky Mountain Ambulance, 7 firefighters with Sheridan Fire-Rescue will be laid off. If the City chooses “plan B”, upwards of 23 City employees may be laid off.
