The Sheridan Area Water Supply Joint Powers Board on Wednesday unanimously approves upgrades at the Big Goose and Sheridan Water Treatment Plants. Dan Roberts, Utilities Director for the city of Sheridan, explains.
Roberts said there are three phases to the treatment plant upgrades, but that phase three can be put off due to funding concerns. As of Wednesday, all the first two phases plus an additional, alternate upgrade have an estimated cost of just over $5 million.
In his presentation to the board, Roberts said phase one of the project will focus on improving floc, which is the larger clumps of particles brought together during the mixing process, as well as improving sedimentation at the two plants.
Phase two will consist of upgrading the filtration process, while phase three - which has been put off - would provide additional sedimentation improvements at the plants.
SAWS will begin advertising bids on January 7, with an estimated completion date in the spring of 2014. At this point, construction is scheduled to run from April 1, 2013 through April 1, 2014.
