Sheridan Fire-Rescue is launching a new fire prevention and education program, thanks to financial help from a handful of businesses within the community.
Fire Marshal, Brian Songer, explains the new program was implemented to reach a new target demographic.
In fact, several young adults from the Sheridan area have died in fires over the last few years. The new prevention program seeks to refresh fire awareness for the high school and college crowd.
The training program consists of prevention, suppression and detection of fires, and includes a “practical application” portion, where students will use a fire extinguisher to douse a controlled flame.
Contributors to the new fire prevention initiative include Seacross Enterprises, Steward Consulting, Flightline Inc., Sheridan College, Marathon Oil, FM Global Insurance and Ann Gardner of State Farm Insurance. Songer said the program would not have been possible without their financial support.
