A sewer line backup in a city-owned line earlier this year caused an estimated $6,000 in damages to a residential home, prompting the resident to file a claim against the city for the damages.
Lucia Maynard, along with her attorney Dennis Kirven, attended last week's council meeting to ask the council to fund the cleanup of Maynard's basement.
The city, through Public Works Director Les Hook, initially denied the claim through the city's insurance company, saying the backup was caused through no fault of the city, therefore they weren't liable for the damages to the basement in the residence.
Hook explained to the council where everything stands.
The city has not yet heard back from their insurance company, or been informed as to who they believe is at fault for the backup in the line.
The council voted to table the issue and wait to hear from the insurance company before making any decision in the matter.
