One bill that has flown under the radar a bit during this year's legislative session is House Bill 216 that would ban weapons in the courtroom in the State. The bill was introduced in the Senate Monday and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senator John Schiffer says that the bill has merit.

The legislation would put into law the common practice now and make it a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, or any combination of both. Representative Kendell Kroeker of Evanston is the bill's sponsor.
