Community groups are holding a free seminar in May to highlight the need for suicide prevention and a deeper understanding of mental illness in Sheridan County. Vanessa Hastings, community prevention specialist for the Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition, explains.

Hastings says the program, entitled "Living With Bipolar Disorder," will feature clinicians, variety of speakers and will show a film on the topic. She says bipolar disorder is characterized by mood swings, from bouts of severe depression to the exact opposite - a hyperactive state of mania.

The Sheridan County Suicide Prevention Coalition along with the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Wyoming chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will sponsor the seminar. Again, the presentation and discussion will take place on May 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Inner Circle of the Fulmer Public Library.
