Search for Ed Director Hits Home Stretch

The application period for the new position as Director of the Wyoming Department of Education has ended, and the state's Board of Education will now begin calling candidates for interviews.

At the end of the month, the board hopes to pass along three names to Governor Matt Mead for appointment.

Gary Ray, of Ray and Associates, a consulting firm out of Rapid City enlisted to help with the search, says he's happy with the number and quality of applications
submitted.

A candidate search like this is unprecedented. Administrative duties of the department were previously carried out by the Superintendent of Public Instruction, but Senate File 104 stipulates the new position of director will be appointed by the governor. Governor Mead's decision is expected by Dec. 1.
